چکیده

We study crossover designs based on the criteria of A-optimality and MV-optimality under the model with random subject effects, for the purpose of comparing several test treatments with a standard control treatment. Optimal and efficient designs are proposed, and their efficiencies are also evaluated. A family of totally balanced test-control incomplete crossover designs based on a function of the ratio of the subject effect variance to the error variance are shown to be highly efficient and robust. The results have interesting connections with those in Hedayat and Yang (2005) and Hedayat, Stufken, and Yang (2006). The omitted proofs in the article are included in a supplemental material online.

Optimal and Efficient Crossover Designs When Subject Effects Are Random

Most studies on optimal crossover designs are based on models that assume subject effects to be fixed effects. In this article we identify and study optimal and efficient designs for a model with random subject effects. With the number of periods not exceeding the number of treatments, we find that totally balanced designs are universally optimal for treatment effects in a large subclass of com...

Efficient crossover designs for comparing test treatments with a control treatment when p = 3

Efficient crossover designs for comparing t test treatments to one control treatment with three periods is considered. Through this investigation and the characterization obtained for the A-optimal/efficient designs in the nearly entire class, the efficiency of a given design is evaluated and guidance for constructing highly efficient designs is provided.

Optimal and efficient crossover designs for comparing test treatments to a control treatment under various models

We study the optimality, efficiency, and robustness of crossover designs for comparing several test treatments to a control treatment. Since A-optimality is a natural criterion in this context, we establish lower bounds for the trace of the inverse of the information matrix for the test treatments versus control comparisons under various models. These bounds are then used to obtain lower bounds...

Efficient crossover designs for comparing test treatments with a control treatment

Within a large family of crossover designs this paper characterizes the mathematical structures of A-optimal and A-efficient crossover designs for the purpose of statistical comparison between t experimental treatments with a control (standard) treatment. It further guides the user how to go about the construction of these designs and if needed doing the last minute modifications. To demonstrat...

Optimal designs for random effect models with correlated errors with applications in population pharmacokinetics

We consider the problem of constructing optimal designs for population pharmacokinetics which use random effect models. It is common practice in the design of experiments in such studies to assume uncorrelated errors for each subject. In the present paper a new approach is introduced to determine efficient designs for nonlinear least squares estimation which addresses the problem of correlation...
